THE HAUNTINGS OF OLD SANTON - A Halloween Visit to a Very Actively Haunted and Remote Church

Coming up at 11pm tonight (Saturday November 8th, 2014) is a 45 minute excursion to a very remote and troubled former church that sits on the Norfolk and Suffolk border of old England.

Join Chris Halton and Haunted Earth tv as we carry out a day and night investigation inside Santon Church, in company with Eddie Mallett, a long time investigator of this site, who has over the years recorded some phenomenal activity at this location.

Santon Church is reputedly haunted by a 17th century priest, whose presence is felt by day and night, and watch how we peel back the layers of activity within.

If proof be positive as to it`s spectral activity, the church door was opened by unseen hands during a preliminary interview with Eddie Mallett which is shared below.

A very creepy location, with lots of activity recorded on our visit which will be made available from this page at the appointed hour with FULL video viewing links here, on the Haunted Earth Ghost World Blog, and brought to you by Haunted Earth tv.

HAUNTED EARTH INVESTIGATE HAUNTED SANTON CHURCH WITH SOME SURPRISING FOOTAGE OF THE PARANORMAL

Chris Halton on location outside the entrance to Santon Church
What can I say about Saturday`s (25th Oct 2014) excursion to Santon Church on the Norfolk/Suffolk border?

A truly delightful experience in the company of Sean Kim and our host, Mr Eddie Mallet of the paranormal group `Whispers in the Dark`.

Santon is a very tiny church cobbled together with stone and flint, and sits almost alone on the edge of a huge forest virtually forgotten in the midst of time.

Everything about it is a surprise that here within its compact structure, is literally a shrine to English Gothic Revivalism, which would have received praise and merit from the likes of art critics such as John Ruskin for it`s adherence in design and fluency to the high altar of Gothic art.

Augustus Pugin - Influenced Santon?
The chancel reflected that ideal with the pervasive influence of no other than the father of Gothic Revivalism, one Augustus Welby Pugin.  This was amply reflected in the star studded ceiling and the beautiful Gothic Revivalist altar table which set perfectly within a frame of some wonderful  wall tiles that would simply have been a precursor for the later `Arts and Crafts` movement which flourished towards the end of the Victorian age.

Indeed Pugin was a friend of the then rector who had commissioned this great work, and it is known that he was staying as a guest at the rectory whilst the rebuilding of the church was taking place.

While there is no written document that ascribes Pugin as the architect, it is no mere coincidence that everything about this church from the interior and exterior screams his name, almost as an atonement for the earlier 17th rebuilding of what is essentially a medieval church by the supporters of Archbishop William Laud.

It is known that much stone was incorporated from nearby medieval West Tofts church, which was a Pugin rebuild commission, and that this mixture of art and material had effectively,  disturbed the spiritual foundation upon which this church was first constructed over 700 years earlier.

After shooting an introduction, we set about recording an EVP session during the late afternoon. Save for the occasional passing of the Norwich to London trains on the railway line in the near distance, the site was perfectly quiet and still, with no modern intrusion by cars or pedestrians.

During this session the chancel felt uncommonly heavy, and left me feeling very uncomfortable, and dare I say, with a hint of nausea but strangely without the unpleasant side-effects. I felt that my presence here was received as an unwarranted intrusion, and having remained a few minutes I was compelled to leave and return back into the main part of the church which had seating for around 50 souls - such was the small congregation it was built for.

Sean Kim who was listening to audio through the radio mic claimed that he heard someone walking briefly behind me, and from a brief initial inspection of the video tape, I can confirm that his suspicions were confirmed - someone or something, was indeed walking in my shadow.

My initial impressions were simply of two people, a man and his wife who I suspected were past incumbents, possibly a rector and his wife, and the feeling of tremendous pride and joy with this church.

I then stood in a lofty pulpit where the earlier feelings of unpleasantness from the chancel had followed me into this narrow box. Again I felt I had to leave, and returned to join Eddie and Sean below.

Eddie Mallett & Sean Kim
With regards to any EVP, I haven`t yet been able to inspect the entire tape of this session but have no doubts that it will supply some interesting recordings of some of the incarnate souls that remain keeping a watchful eye over the church.

Other than the mild smell of age and decay, I did not pick up any unusual odours, and after remaining for some time we left to enjoy the fading sun on a late autumnal October afternoon.
It is worth sharing at this juncture a short clip from my introductory speech at the entrance door to the church. We were all surprised that the heavy oak door decided to open itself possibly as a welcome to this strange yet obsessively beautiful church.

We returned a few hours later in pitch darkness. And the inkiness was perhaps more blacker as the church
and surroundings were bereft of any artificial lighting, and the moon was hidden at the beginning of a new lunar phase.

When opening the church door I stepped into the inky blackness to smell the overpowering odour of alcohol on someone's breath.

The smell permeated throughout the entire church, and was occasionally interspersed with a musty smell of incense and sweat. Not a very pleasant combination of  odours that I was later informed by Eddie to be the presence of the residential ghost, one Richard Kendall MA, who was rector here from 1638 to 1669.

The Demon and Vices - 17th century Puritan woodcut
During the English civil war, Kendall was ejected from the living on a charge of "refusing to contribute to the rebellion, swearing, haunting (frequenting) inns, being distempered (drunk) with liquor, keeping malignant company (prostitutes) ... and saying the puritans were hypocrites". He was later reinstated to his position when the monarchy was restored.

If any of you recall the comedy series, `Father Ted`, the character of `Father Jack`, typified Kendall`s behaviour.

Here my report on the proceedings will remain brief, as I have yet to examine the video of the night`s events which I am happy to report were numerous.

Kendall without any doubt was the most active presence, and throughout the evening it was more than self-evident that he was playing games with us during our stay.

Sean witnessed many large light entities on the nightshot camcorder, and with a curious interest around my physical presence which Kendall seemed pre-possessed to focus upon judging by the orb activity around me.

Sean also saw briefly during the flash of my taking a photograph, a figure of someone sat worshipping in the pews, and shortly after he started to film, the camcorder battery was drained during a spectral event captured to camcorder.

Indeed, my day camcorder was left on a side table to record audio, and that had been surreptitiously turned off by unseen hands within seconds of us starting.

An impressive capture of energy - Was Kendall `looking down`?
I soon realised that this presence wanted to remain unseen at ground level, and the orb activity started to reduce somewhat when I realised that the presence was actually looking down upon us from the rafters. I quickly tilted my digital still upwards and captured this fleeting image.

Eddie then informed me that on an earlier expedition to this church (amidst foul language caught as EVP) a voice said that he `was looking down upon them`.

In no small measure, this image seems to confirm this.

For any doubting sceptics it is worth mentioning at this juncture that I immediately performed a ``breath test` on camera to confirm that the mist was not the product of warm moisture in a cold night environment. And as will be seen in the soon to be released video, the camcorder test confirms this. The church was very warm inside having trapped the heat of a warm sunny day and outside it was quite mild.

The `haunted` boxed pew with close-up of latch (inset)
Another strange incident I recall was being sat in a box pew near to the chancel which Eddie claimed was known as the `haunted pew`.

Sean was invited by me to sit within it, but felt unable to do so, almost to the point that he felt he was being pushed out. To offer further encouragement, I decided to join him within the pew, and as we sat inside Sean locked the gate to the pew by turning a simple latch into place fitted to the outside.

Within a few seconds, the gate started to swing open, as though having had the latch opened by unseen fingers. We again locked it into place and the event replicated once more.

After that it stopped.

Eddie confirmed that this (among other incidents) was one of the reasons that the label `haunted` had been applied justifiably to this pew.

I can confirm that at various points during the night there were sudden rushes of cold breezes around us, and during the entire experiences there I certainly heard a man`s heavy voice in the background.

Whether this appears on the examination and edit of the night investigation video, I cannot as yet confirm. But coupled with the evenings experiences there I am more than confident that we have a rich stream of material to share as our Halloween experience for 2014.

It is hoped that this video can be released and published within a week to 10 days time.

Why not visit Eddie`s team videos here to get a taste of the activity inside this very actively haunted building?

A VISIT TO A VERY HAUNTED ROYAL CASTLE - PART ONE

Tonight at 10pm (UK) time (5pm EST) is the first part of my documentary visit to St Briavels Castle, Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire.

Haunted Earth were kindly invited in March 2014 to join a weekend ticketed investigation hosted by (FPI) Forest Paranormal Investigations. Present were a number of guests, who had travelled there from across the UK.

The first part video concentrates on the history of the castle as well as the spectral tales provided by Ross Andrews, a local historian and author of books relating to the paranormal history of Gloucestershire.
In the video I share my own haunting experiences from the night before, plus Ross`s own personal haunting tales.

The castle has recorded a huge raft of activity over the years, and these events are well documented, and with Ross escorting us around the building, he relates in each part that recorded history.
In Part 2 (which is anticipated for release in two weeks time) , we focus on the night activity with our friends from FPI, and some rather special activity.

This was from a number of perspectives, a very interesting weekend with lots of activity, and of course the participation of both Adam Heath from FPI and myself in the now apparently controversial Zenner card test with spirit using a ghost box and EMF meter to register responses.
Here below is a link shared recently, but (to reiterate) is seen only by one cam. The full event will show responses on the EMF plus other views not previously shared.

PARANORMAL WEEKEND AT HAUNTED CASTLE SURPRISES GUESTS AND INVESTIGATORS

Over the weekend of Friday to Sunday, March 28th - 30th, 2014, both team mate Sean Kim and myself attended St Briavels Castle, in the beautiful Forest of Dean, Gloucestershire.

The occasion was as a guest of our friends Adam and Paula Heath, who run Forest Paranormal Investigations. As you recall late last year, we worked with Adam on two joint productions shot in Tintern, Wales and Coleford, Gloucestershire.

Great use was made of K2 EMF`s and Ghost Boxes which produced some spectacular results.
So the opportunity to work again with Adam at the weekend `Phantomfest`, was something I could not resist.

Joining us at the castle were a goodsized crowd for the building, as St Briavels is quite one of the smallest castles I`ve ever been to, with the exception of Leap Castle in Eire.

The guests were from Lancashire, Nottingham, and even further afield with a party of Australians, who wanted to sample a flavour of St Briavels haunted past.

During that weekend some very strange incidents of paranormality were recorded but not only us, but also by the guests too. And these experiences ranged from seeing spiritual activity, as well as more coventional contact sessions in a circle or on ouija boards and/or ghost boxes.

But for me, the very best part was when I and guests from Lancashire and Nottinghamshire were with Adam in the Chaplains Room at the top of the East Tower, which like many dormitories were named after it`s periods as a castle defensive, and later as a prison where many people died.

Adam Heath (right) with team mate, Sean Kim
Adam set up an experiment using modern Zenner (esp) cards, and a ghost box to hear any responses. Additionally, we had a K2 EMF detector to use as a communication device with spirit.

And here I was simply blown away. On the first face up cards, spirit was able to identify the card by it`s image, and after some minutes, I decided to place the cards face down on the table and selected at random (face down) a card which I placed directly onto the table.

Spirit was able to easily identify the face down card by stating auditorily through the ghost box the image on the card. As an extra confirmation I asked spirit to confirm the choice by flashing the lights on a K2, which it quickly obliged.

The test with the zenner cards
This went on for some further minutes, and it was quite obvious that the spirit responding to the test was conferring with others, and that these voices could clearly be heard on the ghost box speakers.

The assembled guests ranged from believers like Jan, a medium, to Chris, a sceptic. Adam, had left shortly after setting the test up.  And the audience were a good cross selection of investigators.

Jan, Bob and Nik
Chris the sceptic was visibly shocked to see this experiment, and for him, this was a ground breaking moment. But for the rest of us, it was spirit showing itself again, but in a manner I never thought possible. Truly astounding!

I then at the end of this period placed two zenner cards face down, and although it was apparent that spirit was flagging in energy, the choices were again, 100% correct.

The ouija board and ghost box in use inside the old kitchen
We then went later to the former downstairs kitchen, and again using the same set-up as before, spirit came through, and kept repeating my name. I assumed this spirit wanted
me to continue with this game, which clearly this spirit was enjoying with us. And again, spirit correctly identified the imagery on the face down zenner cards.

As an aside, using the ouija board present during the second test, the spirit identified itself as a former servant at the castle called Beth Jones, and also stated she was Welsh.
She shared some aspects from her life there, but by this time the energy was starting to wane, and so the contact session ended.

Without any corroboration, this story would be just that, a story. But both events were recorded on a nightshot Sony camcorder, of which Adam has the tapes (with masses of other evidence) to share as a joint production with Haunted Earth tv.

But for me the supernatural didn`t end there.

That night, I was sharing the Chaplains Room with team mate Sean Kim, when after a few minutes we could clearly hear below us in the Constables Room, the sound of furniture being dragged around and other noises which suggested the guest in that room was having some kind of a party.

Unbeknown to us, the same noises were being heard - but for a much longer period, by Adam and Paula Heath in the bedroom below the Constables Room.

In the morning, the room was examined and found to be exactly as it should. There was one occupant, the author of many books on the castle`s ghostly history, Ross Andrews.
He stated that during the noisy period, he was fast asleep in his room. But he wasn`t surprised we could hear this noise as there have been similar reports in the past.

Dressed for the documentary shoot
But not all went well with spirit. On the second night (Saturday) I was carefully walking down the stone spiral staircase in the East Tower, and beside the entrance door to the Constables Room, when I felt two smallish hands touching my waist. This then became a sharp push, and I went all the way down the stairs before ending up on my back.

I ended up suffering from grazing on my left elbow and little finger, with bruising down my spine terminating in more bruising on my coccyx.

I know that many guests at the castle had many paranormal encounters, and I am not privy with the details of these. But by Sunday when the guests finally left, many had decided to return at a future date to experience more nights as guests of St Briavels Castle.

The full video will be available later on as a joint production between Forest Paranormal Investigations and Haunted Earth tv.

Finally, may I thank Adam, Paula and Mark of FPI, as well as the many wonderful guests that made this weekend very special.

TWO IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENTS REGARDING HAUNTED EARTH TV

Some news!

Haunted Earth have been approached by the Community Channel to host some of our documentaries for a series to be broadcast on their channel in June 2014.

The non-profit, Community Channel broadcasts on digital and terrestrial channels and is supported by the BBC and independent networks.

The channel is available in 13 million homes to 36 million people. BARB research (the TV industry Gold Standard) shows that approximately 1.3 million people tune in every month.

As well as television viewers, every week there are 10,000 individual responses to the Channel through the website, telephone lines and email.

It`s programme content is a mixture of mainstream and small independents like myself with the emphasis being on community based interests.

As a channel, they do not ordinarily share paranormal related material, but in the case of these documentaries, they have allowed for the videos to be shared in their entirety.

For my work, this is an excellent platform, and I am very pleased they have chosen a number of my videos for broadcast under an umbrella programme called, `Great Getaways`.

Closer to the month I will share broadcast times and dates for each shared show.

I`m personally very pleased, as this will garner more interest in my work, and hopefully it will draw interest from other channels too.

Lastly, I was hoping that my current production which is in post edit, would be available to view this coming Saturday, March 15th, 2014.

Due to the amount of material shot for this production, and some new technical improvements, the entire show has been delayed, and will not now be available until 10pm (GMT) on Saturday March 22nd, 2014.

My apologies, but you will be more than compensated by the content in this (for us) groundbreaking programme which has new music additions scored by myself, to work around Youtube copyright restrictions. An example below is a piece I created for the end credits entitled, `Tilbury March`.

Announcements and advertisements for the show will be circulated during next week.

Thank you for being patient. I`m currently a `one man band` on the production side, and fitting all my other responsibilities together, leaves little time for myself.
