DARYL Hannah says a female ghost rescued her from a “disturbed” childhood and saved her from being put in a mental institution.

Daryl Hannah said her parents’ ­divorce, when she was ­seven, sparked difficulties.

“I wasn’t communicative and wasn’t behaving like the rest of the kids,” she told the Biography ­Channel’s Celebrity Ghost Stories.

“And they thought I should probably be institutionalised.”

But she said meeting the ghost, “a heavy-set ­Jamaican lady with a big, beautiful smile”, in her ­garden changed her life.

Daryl, 50, said: “I was a bit afraid of her but fascinated and every day I’d return to see her in her garden.”
