GIGGLING CHILD HEARD BY HAUNTED ROMANY CARAVAN IN MUSEUM

Xstream Paranormal with owner of museum, Gordon Boswell
A little girl’s laughter sent shivers down the spine of the most cynical members of a paranormal team visiting a museum in Spalding.

Xstream Paranormal visited in Gordon Boswell Romany Museum in Clay Lake on Saturday night because “it seemed like an interesting location”.

Three of the Gypsy caravans on display - haunted by a child?
Vivien Powell, one of the members, said she knew it was going to be a good night because even before the equipment was set up things started happening.

She said: “It’s just a hobby for us, but some members of our technical team are really cynical about what we do.

“But even before we got set up some members of the group who are unbelievers said they could hear a little girl giggling. It was an amazing place – we were gobsmacked (amazed).”

Museum owner Gordon Boswell said he couldn't believe some of the things that happened that night.

He said: “When I bought a Romany caravan from down south I was asked if I would take on the ‘little girl’ too.

“I’ve seen her a couple of times, but on Saturday I heard her giggling.

“The team said there was a lot of paranormal activity. At one time a small table started rocking and then it did a somersault. I couldn't believe it.”

Vivien said: “We've already asked if we can go back.”

EMF`s, EQUIPMENT AND SUCCESSFUL RULES FOR PARANORMAL INVESTIGATION

One of the greatest and unproven fallacies of paranormal dogma, is that spiritual presences leave an EMF (Electro Magnetic Field) signature, of which a number of adapted devices can detect.

When I say, `adapted`, I am of course referring to those electronic items not only used by trades folk for use in their respective trades, but also apparently in paranormal investigation.

A classic item that fits this description is an obvious, the EMF meter. I've used a K2 meter (and others) for a number of years in order to prove/disprove their effectiveness.

There have certainly been occasions where I have been in the middle of a psychic event, and the K2 has failed to register any EMF interaction. And on the other hand, I have had even fewer events where they have registered.

So are we to presume spirits have on/off EMF output, or is there something else at play?

To answer this, one would have to suggest that spirit has an ability to manipulate EMF readings when necessary. An example being interactive Q&A sessions where the EMF registers meter reactions as straightforward yes/no responses.

I have seen that a few times, and on one now infamous occasion, the K2 reacted to morse code being recorded on camcorder, as you can see here in this clip from my files.

And on another occasion, an EMF was used in my own home by a young paranormal investigator, and she received some positive responses to questions, as in this clip from my files here.

Extract from `The Haunted Earth Show`, December 2012

BUT from there the EMF meter (from my perspective) is an overhyped device, which reveals only what spirit wants you to experience. These failed sessions are numerous, and of course are mostly unrecorded as they have proven to be of limited use.

And now another device that utilises EMF`s has appeared on my researchers horizon.
The `Inductive Amplifier` is essentially a small handheld device for use in the telecommunications and IT world.

An Inductive Amplifier - there are many different makes
It is used to detect wire and cable installations, and normally works with a tone generator.
The generator emits a 60hz buzz, and is useful in locating wiring from behind a wall.

Essentially, all the device is, is an induction coil fitted to a simple amplifier.

Some pretty incredible claims have been made as to its usefulness, but to balance these claims you have to accept that in many cases, those that support their success in paranormal research are mostly those connected to it`s sale or development as a paranormal tool.

The theory here is that spirits may actually produce RF – radio frequency (EMF) instead of AF – audio frequencies when they speak. Even though the propagation method is different – alternating current instead of wave pressure, the actual frequencies in use are the same, therefore it's simply a matter of converting the RF back into AF, much like a radio does.

Of course, the `research` to support this contention lies within the adaptation of this device for paranormal work. And again the figures just don't add up!

Any sound emitted by this device would destroy any EVP recorded, thus rendering it`s usage at `0`. Many grand claims made by `paranormal researchers` cannot be substantiated, which is much in accord with many other devices that are flooding a hungry paranormal obsessed market.

As with my earlier warnings regarding  `junk science`, you should adopt these few basic rules into your investigations.

TEN RULES TO GREAT GHOST INVESTIGATION

1) Keep numbers of investigators small. And I really do mean small. By keeping investigators to no more than three or four, you stand a far greater chance than groups well in excess of those numbers. It really is that simple. Genuine EVP can be separated easily from team members, especially if the group is divided between two locations.

I have seen as much as 20 people in one group of investigators, and that simply isn`t going to work if the premise is to encounter the paranormal. Also, (and here is a presumed psychology of spirit) they mostly from experience tend to be less active or even dormant when there are many people running around carrying an array of `ghost detection` equipment.

2) Avoid supposed, `open minded sceptical investigators`. The psychology here is that many are negative and closed to the presence of spirit. That negativity will be felt when you are on an investigation, and not just by you, but also by spirit who tend to shy away from close minded people. Which might explain why these individuals will denounce anything you share online. These are generally easy to spot. They boast about their supposed intellect, and sometimes have some weak college degree in an unrelated subject to bolster their self-assumed `intellectual superiority`. Not only are these people borish, they are generally quite the reverse to what they think they are. And often it is all a front to conceal their deepest fears.
Genuine intellectuals are by their scientific curiosity much more open to the prospect of an existence beyond this life, and mostly are prepared to meet believers half-way to understand their belief mechanisms and evidence. They may conclude a different belief to your own, but at least they were persuaded to listen.

3) Avoid anyone potential member who is aggressive and hostile. If their presence puts you off, you can imagine what it will do for spirit!  If you think that being macho is going to draw through more spiritual presences, think again. I realise that Tv shows like, `Ghost Adventures` seems cool to some people, but if you carry on in the character of Zac Bagans, you are more likely to walk away with hot air and nothing more. What you see onscreen is `reality tv`, which sadly is often very unreal having been made for gullible followers.

4) Do not, repeat, do not allow cell or mobiles to be switched on in any investigation - regardless as to whether they are in `silent mode`. You'll end up with lots of buzzing sounds on your nightshot cam, and even worse, the temporary loss of picture. If you cannot (for various reasons) investigate without the phone being switched on, then you should find some other interest to pre-occupy your time with.

5) Keep the camcorder on anyone who is talking on investigation. This has three reasons.
a) You`ll know which is real EVP and which is not by virtue of the fact that you`ll have your team members voice as a record, b) Experience shows that EVP is sometimes more prevalent when someone is talking rather than maintaining total silence. c) Often, incidents occur around the speaker/medium.

6) The secret success of any exercise in life, is to keep things as simple as possible. The more convoluted your organisation is, the greater the risk of matters going wrong. Stick to the basics, and particularly so with equipment you are using. I use a night camcorder (which also acts as a tape recorder - very successfully) and mostly my own senses to `feel` activity. We can all do this, as we are all `fitted` with sensory perception. Just be aware it is there, and can be used. And of course,  essentials, comprising of a flashlight/torch and digital still camera. More equipment than necessary means more potential issues if it decides to go wrong.

7) Show respect when talking to spirit. Just like real life they have feelings (believe it or not), and by showing a common courtesy and respect you often receive more positive results.
If you don't believe that, check out any of my big investigations.

8) Avoid taking drugs or alcohol either prior to or during an investigation. Your senses are the best tools in your armoury of equipment. Don`t dull them.

9) Try to ensure that if you run a group, and however small (remember - small is cool) that you have representation of either sex. Sometimes on location spirit will react in preference to one sex over another.

10) Lastly, whenever possible get permission to enter a location to shoot. We have all entered abandoned sites without permission, because often the owners will not grant that permission. And many locations are `off limits` to investigators. From the perspective of `having a peace of mind`, it`s far better knowing you can be there, rather than some redneck type turning up and waving a shotgun around and telling you the police are coming. And I've been there too!

A TALE OF REVENGE FROM A FRENCH NEWFOUNDLAND GHOST

Originally known as Cap Rouge, the little community of Crouse on Newfoundland’s Northern Peninsula housed an important French fishing station in the late 19th century. English and Irish settlement came later, and for years French fishing crews came from St-Malo to fish the waters off the coast of Newfoundland and Labrador.

The interactions between the French and the Newfoundlanders gave rise to many stories, including one particularly interesting ghost story. The story was recorded by Alicia Norris in the Atlantic Guardian magazine in 1946.

Norris had learned the story from an old fisherman in Crouse, fluent in French, who had sailed with the foreign crews as a boy.

In 1879, the French fleet arrived in early May, with the barquentine Sainte Marie being the first to reach land. Each ship tried to reach Newfoundland first, because the captain of the first ship would become the admiral of the fleet for that fishing season. Le Capitaine Henri Lajeunesse was captain of the Sainte Marie, but his tenure as fishing admiral was short lived: after only a day in Newfoundland, Lajeunesse died.

Crouse today
The Admiral was buried in Crouse, and the French fished all season, returning to St-Malo at the end of the year. But the next year, when they returned, locals were surprised to see them approach the shore with a priest standing in the rowboat.

The priest led a procession to the grave, and began a funeral service for the admiral who had died the summer previously. At the culmination of the ceremony, a curious box was brought forward and opened.

“With due formality, from its box and wrappings, was unfolded a huge, multicolored, china mortuary wreath of indescribable beauty,” writes Norris. “It was lovingly inscribed from the wife and children of the dead seaman. The priest laid it on the grave and blessed it. The congregation sang La Marseillaise and dispersed.”

“An object of such beauty had rarely been seen in Crouse,” adds Norris. “People came from miles around to admire it with almost as much sense of possession as did the French sailors who stood pridefully by.”

During the winter months, a local family was given the honour of moving the wreath from the grave to their house for safekeeping. Each summer, it was returned to the grave. This process continued unhindered for several years. But one summer morning, when the son of the family charged with the care of the wreath went to the graveyard, the wreath was missing.

According to local legend, the wreath was stolen by some of the men of the fishing schooner Daisy May. It was a theft that did not go down well with some of the crew; one older gentleman was said to have crossed himself, denounced the men as desecrators, and predicted that bad luck would follow.
True to the man’s prediction, ill luck followed shortly. The fish vanished, replaced with nothing but fog. The schooner ran up on a shoal, then later was caught in terrible storms. One of the best sailors on the crew was tossed from the rigging by unseen hands, and fell to the deck with a smashed leg and broken ribs. Another young man was partially blinded after a close call with a bolt of lighting.

Before long, the crew was certain that the enraged ghost of Le Capitaine Henri Lajeunesse stalked the ship from stem to stern. One sailor, terrified, looked up at one point to see a ghostly figure charging up the deck “like a ferocious lion” in a peaked cap and blue cape.
The final moment came when a huge rogue wave smashed the decks, picking up the captain and cracking his head against a bulwark. The captain, stunned for a moment, eventually opened his eyes and addressed his crew.

“Put her about,” he moaned. “We're going back to Crouse.”
That is what they did, even though the season had barely begun. The thieves replaced the now much-battered wreath back on the grave of Lajeunesse. And that, according to legend, was enough to allay the ghost of the Frenchman. The Daisy May sailed back to Labrador, and got a fair catch.

According to Norris, a solitary, white china rose hung forlornly from the grave of the Frenchman into the 1940s, all that remained of that precious artifact.
“It was a beautiful wreath, that,” Norris’s old gentleman storyteller told her. “A beautiful, beautiful wreath.”

WAR, DEATH, AND THE PARANORMAL IN WW1

One of Canada’s top military historians has published the first serious study of the First World War’s eeriest phenomena: frontline soldiers’ accounts of ghosts and other “supernatural experiences” amid the bloody battles of Europe almost a century ago.

At times - during heavy fighting, many, many bodies were
left to rot in the open air before burial details could reach them
Award-winning author Tim Cook, the Canadian War Museum’s leading expert on the 1914-18 conflict, has unearthed a host of poignant and spine-tingling stories involving bizarre apparitions, life-saving premonitions and other unexplained happenings that — beyond the mysteries that linger — shed fresh light on “the unending mental and physical strain of fighting on the edge of No Man’s Land.”

Writing in the Journal of Military History, the field’s most prestigious scholarly publication, Cook describes how the knife-edge existence of Canada’s troops in battles such as Passchendaele and Vimy Ridge — perhaps fuelled by widespread interest in the occult and spiritualism in the early 20th century — led some men to believe they’d seen dead comrades resurrected and wandering the scarred landscapes of the Western Front.

In other cases, soldiers claimed to have seen angels hovering over battlefields or felt an “otherworldly” presence that somehow silenced enemy guns to allow escapes from vulnerable positions.

“As a threshold borderland, the Western Front was a place for such spectral thinking and haunting, where the strange was made ordinary, where the safe was infused with danger, where death was natural and life fleeting,” writes Cook, author of an acclaimed, two-volume history of the First World War. “The unnatural, supernatural, uncanny and ghostly offered succour to some soldiers, who embraced these ‘grave beliefs’ to make sense of their war experience.”

Confronting a real possibility for these two Canadians
Cook vividly describes how the living and the dead were gruesomely mingled in the muddy trenches of wartime France and Belgium, where fighting men “became martyred corpses in the blink of an eye” and the unrelenting carnage encouraged a heightened awareness of the thin line between life and afterlife — or, at times, a perceptual blurring of the line.

“Grimy, exhausted soldiers, covered in mud, asleep on a fire step or in a funk hole could easily be mistaken for the dead,” Cook observes. “It was not lost on the soldiers that they seemed to be digging extended graves — the trenches — to protect themselves from death-dealing artillery shells. And, in sick irony, the artillery bombardments often buried the living and disgorged the dead.”

One well-known story from the war is highlighted in Cook’s study: Cpl. Will Bird’s moving description of the night his brother’s “ghost” saved him from certain death. Bird, who had a postwar career as a Nova Scotia journalist and published his war memoirs under the title Ghosts Have Warm Hands, had written about a night after the 1917 Battle of Vimy Ridge when he was suddenly stirred from deep slumber under a tarp he’d been sharing with two fellow soldiers near the front line.

And many dead lay buried and forgotten
“Before dawn, warm hands shook him,” Cook recounts. “Wiping away sleep, he looked with amazement at his brother Steve,” who had been reported missing in action in 1915. “Steve led him through some ruins, when he suddenly rounded a corner and disappeared.”

Cpl. Bird, settled for sleep in the new location, dismissed his brother’s ghostly appearance as a “hallucination.” But in the morning, he was stunned to learn that the two other soldiers under the tarp had suffered a “direct hit from a high explosive shell” and were “dismembered beyond all recognition.”

Another Canadian soldier wrote to his mother that, “One night while carrying bombs, I had occasion to take cover when about twenty yards off I saw you looking towards me as plain as life.” Dumbstruck, he “crawled nearly to the place where your vision appeared” as a German shell slammed into the place he had just left behind.

“Had it not been for you, I certainly would have been reported ‘missing,’” the soldier wrote. “You’ll turn up again, won’t you, mother, next time a shell is coming?”

Cook, who also teaches history at Carleton University, said his research has always focused on “how these young men coped and endured at the front.”

Men on both sides endured these ghostly horrors
Embracing magical or mystical explanations for what happened during the war, he told Postmedia News, “was a common response for some soldiers who lived in a space of destruction and death. As I read the memoirs, letters, and diaries of soldiers I kept encountering the uncanny, the supernatural, and even the spectral.”

He added that while Bird’s account of being delivered from harm by his lost brother is a staple of Canadian war narratives, other such “crisis apparitions” had not been well documented and “no historian really has attempted to understand what that central story meant to Bird.”

While researching the subject, Cook said, he encountered those kinds of stories “over and over again. I kept coming back to the ways that soldiers dealt with death — by being callous towards it, or embracing it, or finding ways to live with it.”

My View:

It has been known for many years, and probably centuries, that battlefields yield a higher than average showing of paranormal activity. And the worst slaughters of any war took place in WW1, which later, and rather optimistically became the `war to end wars`, or `The Great War`.
Sadly by 1939, `The Second Great War` deigned itself upon us through the tyranny of despots and weak political will to confront it. Will we ever learn?

DOES AN ANCIENT DEITY FROM EGYPT HAUNT MANCHESTER MUSEUM?

Manchester Museum - Haunted by a Pharaoh?

An ancient Egyptian statue has spooked museum bosses – after it mysteriously started to spin round in a display case.

The 10-inch tall relic, which dates back to 1800 BC, was found in a mummy’s tomb and has been at the Manchester Museum for 80 years.

But in recent weeks, curators have been left scratching their heads after they kept finding it facing the wrong way.  Experts decided to monitor the room on time-lapse video and were astonished to see it clearly show the statuette spinning 180 degrees – with nobody going near it.

The statue of a man named Neb-Senu is seen to remain still at night but slowly rotate round during the day.

Now scientists are trying to explain the phenomenon, with TV boffin Brian Cox among the experts being consulted.

Scientists who explored the Egyptian tombs in the 1920s were popularly believed to be struck by a ‘curse of the Pharaohs’ – and Campbell Price, a curator at the museum on Oxford Road, said he believes there may be a spiritual explanation to the spinning statue.

My view:

As much as I would seriously want this to be an amazing spiritual phenomenon, I note that on time-lapse video, the object rotates slowly when there are visitors passing through.
The museum building is Victorian, and looking at the video and still image, the floor looks to be wooden and of course, subject to vibrations. The statue never moves at night.
You may have different thoughts, but you have to eliminate the logical before reaching a paranormal conclusion.

BRIT GOVERNMENT RELEASE HUGE TRANCHE OF UFO FILES

An unidentified flying object spotted over east Hull and Hedon by two police officers features in a raft of UFO documents released to the public today by The National Archives.

The 25 files, which contain 4,400 pages, include details of a lit object seen by Humberside Police officers in 2002.

Irregular patterns of light spotted in Withernsea are also featured in the files, along with a “purple and white pulsating jellyfish-like object” spotted by a member of the public above the North Yorkshire Moors.

The files are the 10th and final tranche of UFO files released by The National Archives. They cover the work carried out during the final two years of the Ministry of Defence (MoD)’s UFO desk, from late 2007 until November 2009.

They include details of Government policy, official correspondence with senior ministers and the handling of the largest ever number of UFO sighting reports received since 1978 - the year the film “Close Encounters of the Third Kind” was released.

The files contain accounts of alleged abductions and contact with aliens, as well as details of UFO sightings near UK landmarks.

Included is a report about a lit object in the sky seen by two Humberside Police officers.

A Humberside Police report dated October 17, 2002, details how officers saw an object which “appeared as the size of a ‘normal’ bright star but of different colours – blue, green, red and white”.

The object “appeared to move fast and then stop – it stopped and started on a couple of occasions and repeatedly changed its colour/shape, fading and also becoming brighter at times,” the report says.

The lights, visible for around 45 minutes, were seen with the naked eye at just before 3am from various locations in the Hedon area from a police vehicle.

They were first viewed by officers to be in the sky over the BP chemical plant at Saltend, and then in the Thorngumbald area.

The report says the officers were not convinced by the explanation provided by the Humberside Police helicopter, that it was “a star or satellite and the colour changes being an optical effect due to possible gasses emitted from the nearby industrial plants”.

The police saw the object after responding to a call from a member of the public who said they had spotted a UFO.

The Hull resident said he could see two lit objects in the sky – one over the Eastern Cemetery in Preston Road, the other over the BP plant in Saltend.

“He stated the objects appeared to be ‘communicating’ with each other”, the report says.

Local officers were alerted and “sighted what they believed to be the object being reported by the caller”, the report says.

‘Strange lights’

Details of irregular patterns of light spotted in Withernsea in April 1999 are also included in today’s files.

According to a MoD report, lights coloured white, blue, yellow and red were spotted in the sky from a housing estate.

Similar lights were spotted near Withernsea in the years which followed. The Mail reported in August 2001 a woman was walking on the clifftop at Holmpton when, on the way back to her car at around 10.30pm, “two extraordinarily bright white lights were spotted heading away from Hull and towards the woman.

“The top light was approximately one thumb width away from the bottom light at an angle of about 45 degrees above the lower light.

“The two lights continued on a steady course. Its position never altered and there was no sound.”

And in October 2005 a witness reported seeing “exploding lights in the sky” in Withernsea.

‘Hull’s cigar-shaped object’

Files released today also include details of a well-documented “silver cigar shaped object” seen hovering near the Humber Bridge in August 1997.

In a RAF report sent to the MoD, the object is said to have had “sharp pointed wings with a red light on one and a green light on the other”.

The report says an individual saw the object with the naked eye and binoculars looking “south from Beverley towards the Humber Bridge”.

It hovered at first and “then moved off at great speed”, the report says.

The UFO was reported by nine individuals to a Mail reporter at the time, who then contacted RAF Waddington.

Details of the incident were first revealed several years ago. In 2010 a Royal Air Force official said it appeared to be a “dirigible with navigation lights”.

Jelly fish

The files also include details of a “purple and white pulsating jelly fish-like object” spotted above the North Yorkshire Moors in August 2002.

The object had “smaller light circles surrounding [the] main object”, and a “smaller hazy looking object appeared to be attached to the main object and followed same”.

The object was spotted near Ralf’s Cross viewpoint outside the village of Rosedale.

The path of the object “crossed from right to left and followed the viewer’s car for approx. 4 miles keeping on the left”, the report says.

The report describes a “clear, cloudless evening” but says “some solar activity [was] seen in the form of shooting stars”.

The end of the UFO Desk

Other highlights in today’s files include reports of UFOs spotted near UK landmarks; one hovering opposite the Houses of Parliament and one near Stonehenge.

The files also include a report received via the UFO hotline by someone who had been “living with an Alien” in Carlisle for some time, and a report by a man from Cardiff who claimed a UFO abducted his dog, car and tent while he was camping with friends in 2007.

The files also show in 2009 Defence Minister Bob Ainsworth was told that in more than 50 years, “no UFO sighting reported to [MoD] has ever revealed anything to suggest an extra-terrestrial presence or military threat to the UK”.

This led to their decision to close the UFO Desk and with it the UFO hotline and dedicated email address.

Dr David Clarke, author of the book ‘The UFO Files', said: “The last pieces of the puzzle have finally been revealed with this insight into the last days of the UFO desk.

“These files spell out clearly why the MoD decided – after 60 years – it no longer needed to keep tabs on sightings, even those made by ‘credible’ people such as police officers and pilots.

“The last files from the UFO desk are now all in the public domain. People at home can read them and draw their own conclusions about whether ‘the truth’ is in these files or still out there.”

The latest UFO files for this and your area (UK) can be viewed at www.nationalarchives.gov.uk/ufos.

`GHOST ATTACK` CAUSES 3,500 WORKERS IN BANGLADESH FACTORY TO DOWN TOOLS

A Tale of haunting or hysteria?
Owners of a Bangladesh garment factory were forced to offer prayers and distribute food to the poor on Wednesday in a bid to drive out what workers believed was a ghost at the plant, police said.
Some 3,500 workers stopped work at the plant in Gazipur, north of Dhaka on Tuesday, and smashed furniture to demand action to remove the ghost, which some workers claimed had attacked them in the ladies' washroom.
"The agitating workers refused to join duty and vandalised the factory after the management did not take any steps to drive out the ghost," Gazipur industrial police inspector Showkat Kabir told AFP.
Kabir said the owners held special prayers at the factory and also distributed food among the poor to drive out the "ghost".
"All the workers, owners and the managers will join the prayers and the factory will reopen on Thursday after two days of shutdown due to the ghost-related protests," he said.
A medical expert said the "ghost attack" could be a sign of psychological distress in the wake of a series of deadly disasters involving garment workers in the past six months.
In April 1,129 people were killed in one of the world's worst industrial disasters after a nine-storey factory complex called Rana Plaza caved in trapping over 3,000 garment workers. Scores of workers had limbs amputated to rescue them from pancaked floors.

"The garment workers are panicked. The memory of the death of so many of their colleagues at Rana Plaza is still fresh," Mahmudur Rahman, director of the Institute of Epidemiology, Disease Control and Research (IEDCR) told AFP.

Rahman said the so-called ghost sighting could be a "symptom" of mass hysteria, a mysterious illness that the institute says could also be responsible for the illness of hundreds of garment workers in recent weeks.

"One worker might have hallucinated on a ghost-like object and as the news spread other workers started to think that they also saw that ghost or (thought) it attacked them," Rahman said.
Hundreds of workers have fallen sick at several garment plants, which the IEDCR said could be linked to a "mass psychogenic illness" or "mass hysteria" affecting mentally and physically vulnerable people from a similar group.

Kabir added that "mass psychogenic illness" appears highly contagious. As soon as one or two workers fall sick, others are immediately struck with similar symptoms, he said, adding that extremely hot weather contributes to their vulnerability.

WEARSIDE GHOST HUNTERS FEATURED ON `MY GHOST STORY`

Fiona Vipond and Drew Bartley, seated,
with a producer from the TV show My Ghost Story
WEARSIDE ghost hunters will share the city’s spooky secrets on international TV this week.

The group, Ghost (Ghost Hauntings Overnight Surveillance Team) has filmed an episode of My Ghost Story for a Los Angeles-based production company, which will air on the Sky Biography Channel tonight.

Fiona Vipond, 42, and partner Drew Bartley, 47, of Tunstall, who helped found Ghost, are thrilled their paranormal hobby will put Wearside on the map.

“I’m so proud it’s showing Sunderland to the world,” she told the Echo.

“The programme has 55 million viewers in America, so it’s giving the city a platform to be seen.”

The couple and the rest of their team, including Lady Yvonne Moore, 65, of Silksworth, Mark Winter, 39, from Blyth, and medium Noel Sorbie, 60, investigated the allegedly haunted Doxford House.

Fiona – who owns Park Grange Advanced Skin Clinic, in Grange Terrace – said the Doxford site is one of the most haunted places she has investigated.

“Put it this way,” she said. “It’s one of my top three for paranormal activity.

“We made contact with General Beckwith, who lived there, and a little girl called Emily who died in a fire.

“The last time we were in, Noel did a clearance to move the spirits on from the building, but we couldn’t move General Beckwith.”

Fiona, who has been investigating paranormal activity for the last 10 years, has had some hair-raising experiences.

“I’ve had a few,” she said. “When I’ve been on my own I’ve had my bottom pinched a few times.

“I don’t know whether it is cheeky kids, or randy old men.

“When we were in Doxford House I was the first to see the shadow man, who hangs around in the kitchen.

“I saw an apparition and felt a cold blast of air as I followed him – it was like he walked through me.”

The team work claim they work scientifically to disprove paranormal theories using a K2 meter, which measures electromagnetic frequencies, and a digital dictaphone, which can pick up voices that the human ear can’t hear.

“Even I can’t disprove the K2 meter,” said Fiona. “If it picks something up, where is it coming from?

“Nowadays you can’t just tell people what you have found, you have to have evidence to back yourself up and be able to show them.

“I’m really excited for the programme to go out. The film crew were pleased with it and have already spoken about working with us again.”

My Ghost Story will air on the Biography Channel, Sky 156, at 9pm tonight, and 10pm on Saturday.

UFO CAPTURED OVER ANCIENT DUTCH CASTLE

Literally faster than the eye could follow, an unusual object was accidentally photographed above the landmark Muiderslot Castle in the Netherlands.

On May 25, Corinne Federer and her mother visited the medieval castle, built in 1285 near Amsterdam. Federer, a supply chain manager for Adidas in Amsterdam, and an avid photographer, was shooting High Dynamic Range, or HDR, photos of the castle.

In this normal exposure image, suddenly an unknown object appears in the sky above the castle. The next slide shows the same picture, but with some adjustments made to show more details of the object.

"In order to create HDR images, you take three or more exposures -- this one happened to be five -- and you shoot them all at the same time, because you then overlap the images and it gives you the full spectrum of light, which your camera can't capture but your eyes can," Federer, 43, told The Huffington Post in an exclusive interview.

In this image, the contrast and grey scale settings of the original exposures have been adjusted to further clarify the unexplained object that was photographed by Corinne Federer over the Muiderslot Castle in the Netherlands on May 25, 2013.
When Federer reviewed some of the images she had taken, she was startled to see that in one five-image progression, something unusual appeared.

"It was a tubular-shaped object that had an S-shaped fin on it. If it had been any type of missile, it would've had multiple fins, but facing the same direction. We heard nothing, it was completely quiet out. The more I flipped through the frames, it was kind of creepy," Federer recalled. "I've been shooting for quite some time and I've seen other stuff in the news, but I've never seen anything [like this] with my own eye.

"I couldn't wait to get home where I could blow it up and see what was really there. I looked at the image information -- at the shutter speed -- and (the object) was blurred at 1/250th of a second, so it had to be going superfast. The object is not in the frame before or after, so it had to be going really, really fast. I was kind of blown away."

Federer made some adjustments in the gray scale settings of the raw images and boosted the blacks and shadows to produce secondary images that further clarified the mystery object. She then realized that, within the five-image sequence -- keeping in mind that these five pictures were taken within a one-second time frame -- in the image following the appearance of the UFO on the right side, suddenly she saw a portion of another object (or the same one), but on the left side of the exposure.

"The most interesting part of that, for me, is those fins are on the opposite side. At first, I thought the fin side must be a tail, but after looking at it from the second image, it almost looked like the fins were (at) the front and it was turning around and coming back into the frame."

Further intrigued, HuffPost reached out to Ben Hansen, a former FBI special agent, who has used his investigative skills to analyze thousands of videos and photographs of alleged paranormal events.

We asked Hansen, the lead host of Syfy Channel's "Fact or Faked: Paranormal Files," to give us his opinion of the Muiderslot Castle UFO images.

"Having reviewed the raw files, there's no overt indication that the photos have been manipulated with post editing software," he told HuffPost in an email.

"The object's appearance is internally consistent with the rest of the photo. For instance, look at the darker area of the underside of the object compared with the clouds. The shadowing is similar on the underside as well as the lighting on the top of the object and the clouds where the sun is brightest. Having the sun in the frame is helpful because it indicates where shadows should appear. This further supports that the object was photographed 'in-camera' and not added later."

Hansen doesn't agree with Federer's suggestion that the object traveled from left to right and then back again.

"If we were to assume that the protrusions are stabilizing airfoils -- such as might be found on a rocket or jet -- then it would make sense that the larger fins would be placed on the rear of the object and, consequently, we would know its direction," Hansen wrote. "However, the available pixels which blur and separate the protrusions from the main body equally suggest maybe they are NOT airfoils, but some other part of the object that is in rapid motion."

So, what exactly does Hansen think Federer captured in the blink of an eye?

"If I had to place my money on it, I would say that we're looking at insects. We typically see many wing protrusions on insect rod cases, but they do come in the single pair variety, too. It all depends on the shutter speeds and motion of the insects."

Another thing makes this case a little more interesting. While Hansen was closely studying the images captured by Federer, he noticed something else (see above).

"I found another object. To the right of the sun, we see a slender, almost disk-shaped object that appears to have no protrusions. Hmmm."

Federer isn't sure what she photographed over the Muiderslot Castle that day, but offers a personal cosmic view of things.

"When I look at the amazing photography which captures the night sky in long exposures, and you can see how many stars are out there, I think there's absolutely no way that we're alone. So I don't find it unreasonable to believe that there's another habitable planet somewhere that has started exploring space.

"Maybe they're more advanced than we are and they've come by to see what's going on here."

GHOSTLY MONKS DISCOVERED ON OLD IMAGE OF IONA ABBEY

IONA ABBEY, founded sometime prior to 1203 on the site where St Columba built his monastery in the sixth century, was built following Ranald Somerled’s invitation to the Benedictine order of monks to construct a new monastery - and the first Benedictine nunnery - on the site of the original church.

Comprising a church dedicated to St Mary, and a monastery in the name of St Columba, the abbey became the Cathedral of the Bishops of the Isles in 1499.

Reportedly ransacked and vandalised by a reforming mob in 1561, by the late 17th century, the abbey was largely ruined.

Work began to restore the abbey towards the end of the 1800s, with the Iona Community taking over the day-to-day running of the abbey in 1938.

Historic Scotland has been researching the archaeology of the abbey as part of their re-presentation of the site.

In this image from around 1900, kindly provided by the RCAHMS, several ghostly figures appear to be walking across the courtyard. The result of a simple double exposure? Or is it a case of the paranormal being captured in an old photo?

• RCAHMS is Scotland’s national collection for information, images and materials on the built environment (from prehistory to the present)

SCEPTICS FLEE 16th CENTURY SCOTTISH HAUNTED TOWER IN TERROR OF VOICES

A hardened ghost hunter fled from a haunted Fife tower in terror after hearing ghostly voices.

Gregor Stewart, who is a self-described “open-minded sceptic”, found a research trip to the Tolbooth Tower in Pittenweem too strange for comfort.

Investigating the tower along with his son Kyle, 17, the pair had lasted around three hours but were suddenly so spooked that they left the building as soon as they could.

The reputedly haunted tower
attatched to Pitenweem
 Parish Church where witches
 were kept before execution.
Gregor, an author of two books about haunted locations, had set up a digital recorder during their time in the tower and when it was played back there was a voice around the time the two began to feel unwell, which neither Gregor nor his son heard at the time.

The Tolbooth Tower, which housed witch trials in the 18th century, is well-known in paranormal circles for unexplained activity, including an ‘entity’ which has apparently affected many people on tours over the years.

Gregor, 43, said: “There were only two of us in the tower at about 10 o'clock at night.

“We had been feeling fine for about three hours when, all of a sudden, my son started feeling light-headed and I felt my knees go. We just grabbed our stuff and left. We did not want to be in there anymore.

“That is the first place I have investigated that I have been spooked and had to leave.

“I had been asking whether whoever is still in the tower objects to the tours and on the recording you can hear a response which seems to say: ‘Definitely... too much talking’.

“Our own voices on the recording are quite faint but the extra voice speaks over us and is much clearer. Although neither of us heard the voice at the time, within a few minutes we both felt so uncomfortable we left.”

The tower was at the centre of the little-known Pittenweem witch trials. At least 26 “witches” were tortured and 18 of them killed in the fishing village in the early 18th century.

FORMER SATANIST HOME TERRIFIES FAMILY

Haunted - The house in St. James, N.Y
After escaping media attention when her husband died in a tragic 2005 blaze, the widow of a Bronx firefighter said she moved into a haunted home in Long Island.
Jeanette Meyran, 53, moved her two daughters to a secluded bungalow in St. James, N.Y., the year after her husband, Lt. Curtis Meyran, leaped to his death instead of burning alive in the 'Black Sunday' fire. Though she hoped for a fresh start in the two-story house, Meyran said she and her kids were terrorized by a demon after they made renovations in the 'Paranormal Witness' season three premiere on SyFy.
'In your wildest dreams, did you ever think rebuilding a home would cause such devastation?' Meyran said in the 'Paranormal Witness' episode 'The Long Island Terror'.

Lt. Curtis Meyran, leaped to his death instead of
burning alive in the 'Black Sunday' fire.
Meyran and her family believe the haunting is linked to the house's first owners. During renovations, her husband's friends found an 86-year-old diary describing satanic rituals with animal sacrifices.
'The pages seemed to be written by the young girl that was the daughter of someone who lived in the house,' described Meyran. 'I saw the name Christina. I realized that she was only a few years older than my own daughters.'
Meyran said the diary was 'an incredibly dark story'.
'She would talk about her father. There were sacrifices. "He hurt me again" or "He hurts the animals. They're bleeding and I bleed like they bleed",' Meyran said. 'These people were sick. This is what went on in this house.'

But Meyran and her daughters came to the house to escape other demons.
After her husband died, Meyran said New York City media were relentless in trying to get interviews from her and her kids.
'I said maybe we should find some small place where we could maybe escape from this, away from the city, away from the cameras, and hopefully they'll find some peace,' said Meyran.'We just wanted to be left alone,' Danine Meyran, now 15, said on the show.
'I began to see this was a new way to give them a new life,' she said.

They moved from their home in Malverne, N.Y., to a small house in on an acre of Suffolk County forest that needed some work and her husband's firefighter friends were happy to help out. Afraid of looters during  construction, they installed cameras.
Watching one of the camera feeds in 2006, Meyran saw a man in the woods surrounded her house.
'Right in the middle of the frame I saw what appeared to be a man,' Meyran said. 'It made no sense.'
The paranormal occurrences continued. Starting in 2007, her daughters heard thumps and knocking that appeared to be coming from the walls in the middle of the night.
'It's new to us, we have to learn the sounds of the house,' Meyran remembered thinking of her daughters' experience.
Jeanette Meyran and her two daughters,
 Danine, left, and Angela, right
Danine and Angela Meyran, now 18, found a pentagram—as well as bones and teeth—in the woods. While fixing up the basement, Meyran's husband's friends also found a pentagram etched into the concrete floor.

When Angela was home alone one night, she became terrified when the kitchen was apparently ransacked by a ghost or spirit.
'My mom had left me alone in the house. She had given me instructions when she left that she wanted to clean up,' Angela explained on the show. 'And I just remember feeling like I wasn't alone. I looked back behind me a couple of times and there was nobody there.I couldn't shake this feeling of having somebody watching me and it was really starting to bother me.'
When Meyran came home, she said she saw every cabinet and every drawer out.
'The place looked like it had been ransacked,' Meyran said. 'Was someone trying to hurt us? Was someone physically here?'
The family heard whispers in the walls, some calling out their names. Meyran and her daughters also described how Danine was trapped by something in the house.
'It looked like she was having a seizure she was so frightened,' Meyran said, adding that she heard noises that 'sounded like someone was performing a ritual'.

Meyran and her daughters called out for their dead husband and father.
'This is the time more than anything that I needed my dad, that I needed him to be there,' Danine said. 'I knew that if he was there, everything would just be fine.'
'How do you protect you children? How can you fight what you can't see?' Meyran said.
'I felt something evil. I was so frightened,' Meyran said, describing another encounter.
In 2008, they hired a priest to get rid of any paranormal activity, but the holy water he gave the family didn't help.

While trying out her new phone's camera, Jeanette
captured what she believes to be the
silhouette of her dead husband
The next year Angela went outside to go on the swings. She and Meyran said something pushed her off the swing, causing her to break her ankle.
Angela also saw something in her bedroom mirror.
'I saw a black figure that kind of stepped out of my mirror. What could I do? I couldn't run,' said Angela, who added she hid under her bed. 'It smelled like death.'

Following this incident, Meyran took her daughters to her mother's house and called a paranormal investigator, Liz Milano, early in the morning.
'They had so much tragedy in their life with their dad and her husband and then this thing creeps in and takes over,' said Milano on the show.
Along with a psychic medium, Milano said she cleansed the house with kosher salt, sage and a blessing in 2011.
'It was like a battle. I heard chanting, I heard screaming,' Meyran said.
Meyran and her family said the blessing worked.
They still live in the house and cleanse it every three months, Meyran told The New York Post.
Sometimes they still see ghosts.
'I see my dad in this house walking through the hallways checking on us. It’s nice to know he’s watching,' Angela told the Post.

DID A POLTERGEIST DESTROY A JAMAICAN HOME?

The charred remains

Distraught householders said they lost "everything". The fire department estimated the total loss at around $15 million. Family members, who yesterday steadfastly insisted that their names be kept out of news reports, confirmed that the house was not insured.

The Junction police confirmed late yesterday that they were investigating the incident.

A 42-year-old daughter of the householders said any material assistance would be welcomed "because the house burn down and we lose everything".

Fire personnel said that on their arrival the house was already "engulfed". They were able to save an old building, almost adjoining, described by relatives and neighbours as an "old outside kitchen". Firemen described the cause of the fire as "unknown".
Destroyed by fire

But family members and neighbours were in no doubt that it was merely a continuation of the mysterious happenings occurring sporadically since April 20. They claim several people have been hit with stones and small fires had, on occasion, destroyed furniture, including mattresses and settee chairs. They insist that the cause is "not natural" and is "duppy business".

The daughter told the Jamaica Observer that in the latest incident, family members found themselves being hit by stones on occasions Monday night to early Tuesday morning.

It was as if the stones were "coming out of the ceiling", she said. She showed this reporter bruises on her neck and arms as evidence of being hit.

She claimed they left the house yesterday, with some family members hoping to go to the doctor only to hear that the house was on fire.

"Pure fire mi see a bun ... the whole of the top of the house pure fire," a neighbour, who claimed to have been early on the scene, said.

When the Observer team arrived in mid-afternoon, only the blackened walls of the burnt-out house remained with scores of people from surrounding communities visiting to see for themselves. Twisted metal in what was said to be the kitchen was identified by neighbours as the remains of appliances, including fridge and stove. Saddest of all, perhaps, were the remains of school books burnt to cinder.

The daughter who spoke to the Observer, angrily rejected allegations that family members had been involved in demonism and spiritualism of any form.
"We not in no de Laurence business, we don't deal inna obeah, we don't know anything bout dem thing deh... I have to work too hard to tek my money give obeah man," she said. "If we did owe de Laurence money, wi nuh woulda pay it back long time from the first stone dem start throw? But wi don't know who to go to because wi don't owe nobody and wi don't do nobody nuttin," she said.

Her constant puzzled refrain was "we want to know what cause this?" She asked this reporter: "In all your experience, you have any idea what could cause this?" She got no answers.

She confirmed that her 70-year-old mother had been taken to the doctor. "She suffering from diabetes and high blood pressure, and all this is too much," she said.

The daughter said that after initially dismissing reports that "duppies" (ghosts) were involved, she changed her opinion weeks ago, when she saw a window on fire with no obvious source. "Mi see it fi myself," she said.

NEW LONDON UNDERGROUND `GHOST STATIONS` NETWORK MAP

Ever been on the Tube and caught a glimpse of a mysterious dark tunnel and wondered where it went?

Chances are it has something to do with the numerous tube stations that have been closed over the years either to low passenger numbers or the building of newer stops nearby.

This fascinating insight into the world of mysterious "ghost stations" is courtesy of tube enthusiast Dylan Maryk who collected the data, and Us Versus Them who turned it into a visualisation.

FOR SALE - SERIAL KILLER ED GEIN`S HEADSTONE

Ed Gein
An area man has quite the collection. he runs a store just outside Janesville. He sells antiques, collectibles, and junk! But he's hoping one item will eventually bring him a big pay day.

“Well a lot of people think since I have so much stuff here they say is this guy a hoarder?”

Huey Long has a lot of stuff.

“This is actually a World War II bomb,”

Some of it is pretty cool.

“The first snow mobile,”

And some is downright creepy.

“My wife sold a cat, a dried up cat, a mummified cat, on eBay for $160.50,”

But this is Huey's weirdest possession.

“Odd ball stuff would be like the headstone of Ed Gein,”

This is the second headstone of Wisconsin killer Ed Gein.

“There's a lot of people who come in here that are grossed out by it but they have to touch it,” said Long laughing. “They have to touch the headstone but some people won't touch it whatsoever,”

Gein was a convicted murderer known for his grisly crimes in the 1950 and 60s

“When his mother died, Ed went crazy,” said Long “Like the movie Silence of the Lambs was based upon Ed Gein...Texas Chainsaw Massacre was based upon Ed Gein,”

House of Horror - Ed Gein`s home
He died in 1984 and was buried in a cemetery in his hometown of Plainfield.

“That little town gets thousands of visitors every year to visit Ed Gein's grave

The original headstone was vandalized, stolen, eventually found and placed in a museum in Waushara county.

Officials decided to leave his grave unmarked. But someone built a replacement.

“It's drawn blood on my at least three times before because of the nails on the backside,” said Long. “People always ask me why do they have nails on there? And I say to keep Ed down,”

A few years ago, someone brought the stone into Huey's store on Highway 14 just outside Janesville. After checking with authorities to make sure he could legally buy the stone, he went ahead and made the deal.

“I'm hoping someday to put it on it's own internet site and see what kind of money I can get for the headstone,” he said.
“I've been offered $3,000 from a person in Chicago but I turned it down because I believe it's worth more,”

The stone is relic from a dark time in Wisconsin's history but it's history that could be worth some money.

“The reason i'm in this business is treasure hunting, I enjoy going out there and finding that treasure,”

Long's business is located on Highway 14 just outside of Janesville in the unincorporated town of Emerald Grove.

RAT FOUND ON MARS?

Is that a rat… on Mars?!

Yes, according to a theory from one determined man in Japan who recently scoured dozens of NASA photos taken by the space agency’s Mars Curiosity rover. A post on UFO Sightings Daily shows the “Mars rat,” which appears to be a creature with legs and a tail among rocks on the planet.

As the blog notes, the figure “seems to resemble a rodent but also may be a lizard.”

The alleged Mars rat should not be confused with a similar sighting first pointed out in December: An image taken by the Curiosity rover at the “Rocknest” site in September shows a rodent-like figure that most closely resembles a squirrel. However, as UFO Sightings Daily notes, that observation may have been staged by NASA as part of an experiment.

While this most recent rodent sighting may be yet another NASA test (or the result of a few perfectly placed rocks), it’s most likely not a living creature. After all, this is something NASA would make an announcement about, right?

Earlier this year, the agency revealed that the Curiosity rover uncovered signs that life may have once existed on Mars. NASA scientists cited a rock sample the rover analyzed in February that contained elements necessary for supporting life.

“We have characterized a very ancient, but strangely new ‘gray Mars’ where conditions once were favorable for life,” John Grotzinger, Mars Science Laboratory project scientist at the California Institute of Technology in Pasadena, Calif., said in a statement at the time. “Curiosity is on a mission of discovery and exploration, and as a team we feel there are many more exciting discoveries ahead of us in the months and years to come.”

Scientists state that this is merely a `rat shaped rock`

SOME GHOSTS OF OLDE ENGLAND

Here is our visit to the very haunted village of Ayot St Lawrence, in Hertfordshire and featured in the Haunted Earth Show, May 2013.
Some great activity in a beautiful location.
